John P. Groetelaars
President and Chief Executive Officer
John P. Groetelaars joined Hill-Rom Holdings, Inc., as president and chief executive officer in May 2018. Previously, Mr. Groetelaars was executive vice president and president of Becton, Dickinson and Company’s (BD) Interventional Segment, where his responsibilities included global strategic, operational and commercial performance, and delivering the segment’s financial performance and innovation platform. Prior to the BD acquisition of C.R. Bard, Mr. Groetelaars was group president at Bard, which he had joined in 2008. He previously held positions of increasing responsibility with Boston Scientific Corporation, Guidant Corporation and Eli Lilly. Mr. Groetelaars earned his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Kettering University in Michigan, and an MBA from Columbia University in New York.
Senior Vice President and President, International
Carlos Alonso was appointed senior vice president and president, International in April 2015. Before joining Hill-Rom, Mr. Alonso served as the president and CEO of the Esaote Group, a medical imaging leader based in Genova, Italy. Prior to the Esaote Group, Mr. Alonso served as the CEO of Esteve Pharmaceuticals based in Barcelona, Spain, and held various leadership roles of increasing responsibility with Baxter International Inc. over the course of 15 years, including serving as global president of the Renal Division. Mr. Alonso holds a master’s degree in chemical process automation from the Instituto Quimico de Sarriá in Barcelona, Spain, and a master’s degree in management from IESE – Universidad de Navarra, also in Barcelona, Spain.
Senior Vice President and President, Surgical Solutions
Francisco Canal was appointed senior vice president and president, Surgical Solutions in June 2017. Mr. Canal joined Hill-Rom in October 2015 as president, Hill-Rom Europe, and has played a key role in that region’s growth. Before joining Hill-Rom, Mr. Canal held several senior executive roles at Baxter, Gambro and, most recently, Smith and Nephew. He has lived and worked in Europe, the Middle East and Asia. He holds an MBA from IMD in Switzerland, a master’s degree in chemical engineering from Institut Quimic de Sarria in Barcelona and a master’s degree in industrial engineering from Universitat Ramon Llull in Barcelona.
Andreas G. Frank
Senior Vice President, Corporate Development and Strategy, and Chief Transformation Officer
Andreas G. Frank was appointed chief transformation officer in November 2017. Mr. Frank joined Hill-Rom in October 2011 as senior vice president, Corporate Development and Strategy. Prior to Hill-Rom, Mr. Frank served as director of Corporate Development at Danaher Corporation. Prior to Danaher, Mr. Frank worked in the Corporate Finance and Strategy practice at the consulting firm McKinsey & Company. Mr. Frank earned master’s degrees in business administration and economics from the Otto Beisheim School of Management in Germany and The University of Texas at Austin, Red McCombs School of Business, respectively.
Senior Vice President and President, Patient Support Systems
Paul (PJ) Johnson was appointed senior vice president and president, Patient Support Systems (PSS) in November 2016. Mr. Johnson joined Hill-Rom in 2013 as a senior sales leader for the U.S. PSS business. Prior to joining Hill-Rom, he worked for Life Technologies, where he was most recently President of its Americas region. Before his tenure at Life Technologies, Mr. Johnson spent 18 years with General Electric in a series of increasingly senior sales executive roles, culminating in his position as general manager, Sales and Marketing, in GE’s Clinical Information Systems business.
Senior Vice President, Innovation and Connectivity, and Chief Technology Officer
Brian Lawrence was appointed senior vice president, Innovation and Technology, and chief technology officer in October 2017. Mr. Lawrence joined Hill-Rom in December 2010 as senior vice president and chief technology officer. Prior to Hill-Rom, he served as chief technology officer for GE Healthcare’s Life Support Solutions business and held other leadership and innovation positions in GE's Global Research Center. Before GE, Mr. Lawrence was president and CEO of Extend Optical Systems Corporation and senior vice president of Research and Development and chief technology officer for Molecular OptoElectronics Corporation. Mr. Lawrence holds undergraduate and graduate degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and a Ph.D. from the Center for Research and Education in Optics and Lasers (CREOL) at the University of Central Florida.
Senior Vice President, Operations
Tim Lawrence was appointed senior vice president, Operations in September 2017. Prior to joining Hill-Rom, Mr. Lawrence spent 15 years in various positions with increasing responsibility at Baxter International Inc., including most recently as corporate vice president for Operations where he oversaw 60 manufacturing plants spanning 30 countries. Earlier in his career, he served as a general manager for Precision Components International, part of The Wertheimer Group, and for Pratt and Whitney. Prior to his business career, Mr. Lawrence was a commissioned infantry officer in the U.S. Army. He holds a bachelor's degree from the United States Military Academy at West Point and a master's degree in management from Purdue University.
Senior Vice President and President, Global Solutions
Kevin McCulloch was appointed senior vice president and president, Global Solutions in May 2017. Prior to joining Hill-Rom, Mr. McCulloch served as chief business officer for Water Street Healthcare Partners Pharmaceutical Holdings. Before that, Mr. McCulloch spent 15 years with Baxter, where he served as general manager and/or president of several different businesses, including Global Services, Fenwal and Global Fluid Systems. He spent the earlier part of his career in senior sales and marketing roles at GD Searle and The Upjohn Company (both now part of Pfizer). Mr. McCulloch holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Michigan and an MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg Graduate of School of Management.
Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer
Kenneth (Ken) Meyers was appointed senior vice president and chief human resources officer in September 2015. Prior to joining Hill-Rom, Mr. Meyers held the same role at Hospira, Inc. from 2008 until its acquisition in 2015 by Pfizer, Inc. For several years prior to his tenure at Hospira, Mr. Meyers was a partner at Mercer / Oliver Wyman Consulting, specializing in leadership development of general managers and HR professionals. Prior to Mercer / Oliver Wyman, Mr. Meyers served as senior vice president, Human Resources, for Starbucks Coffee International. Mr. Meyers also held human resources positions of increasing responsibility during his career at The Gymboree Corporation, Walt Disney Imagineering and United Technologies. He has lived and worked in the U.S., England, France and South Africa. Mr. Meyers serves on the board of directors of Syneos Health (NASDAQ: SYNH), the only fully integrated end-to-end clinical and commercial solution organization, where he chairs the Compensation Committee and serves on the Nominating & Governance Committee. Mr. Meyers holds a bachelor’s degree in International Business and Human Resource Management from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School and an MBA from the Harvard Business School.
Michael J. Murphy
Senior Vice President, Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs
Michael J. Murphy was appointed senior vice president, Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs (QARA) in July 2012. Mr. Murphy joined Hill-Rom as vice president of QARA in May 2011. Prior to joining Hill-Rom, he was with Baxter International Inc., where he spent three years in Switzerland as vice president of Quality for Europe, Middle East, & Africa before being promoted to vice president II, Corporate Quality at Baxter headquarters outside Chicago. Mr. Murphy’s previous experience also included senior-level Quality & Regulatory positions at Boston Scientific and a company formerly owned by J&J, Harmac Medical. Mr. Murphy served in the U.S. Air Force active duty and reserve and holds a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Technology Management with concentrations in Biomedical Engineering and Management from The State University of New York, Buffalo.
Deborah M. Rasin
Senior Vice President, Chief Legal Officer and Secretary
Deborah M. Rasin was appointed senior vice president, chief legal officer and secretary in January 2016. Before joining Hill-Rom, Ms. Rasin served as vice president, secretary and general counsel at DENTSPLY International Inc., the NASDAQ-listed leading manufacturer and distributor of dental and other consumable healthcare products. Prior to DENTSPLY, Ms. Rasin served as vice president of Legal, general counsel and secretary of Samsonite Corporation, and subsequently was a partner in a private law practice in London, England. Prior to joining Samsonite, Ms. Rasin spent ten years as a senior commercial and corporate attorney for General Motors Corporation. In addition to residing in the United States and the United Kingdom, she has lived and worked in Hong Kong, Switzerland and Israel. Ms. Rasin holds a bachelor’s degree from Harvard College and juris doctor from Harvard Law School.
Senior Vice President and President, Front Line Care
Alton Shader was appointed senior vice president and president, Front Line Care (which includes Welch Allyn) in September 2015. Mr. Shader joined Hill-Rom as senior vice president and president, Post-Acute Care in July 2011 and was promoted to the position of president, North America in May 2012. Before joining Hill-Rom, Mr. Shader was general manager of Renal at Baxter International Inc. Previously, he served as general manager for Baxter Ireland and held senior marketing positions in Baxter's operations in Zurich and in California. Mr. Shader also has held positions of increasing leadership responsibility at several other organizations, including Bain & Company. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics and Psychology from Claremont McKenna College and an MBA from Stanford University.
Chief Compliance Officer
Ilana Shulman was appointed chief compliance officer in November 2014. Prior to joining Hill-Rom, Ms. Shulman worked at Astellas U.S., where she was responsible for all legal and compliance issues for Latin America as well as the anti-bribery and anti-corruption program. Prior to Astellas U.S., she spent 12 years at Pfizer in a variety of roles in Legal, Compliance and Public Affairs, including supporting the Worldwide Public Affairs and Policy groups and the Latin American, European and Japan/Asia regions. Before joining Pfizer, Ms. Shulman worked at Sullivan & Cromwell, where she specialized in securities transactions with Latin American and Spanish clients. Ms. Shulman also clerked for Chief Judge Gregory Carman on the U.S. Court of International Trade. Ms. Shulman holds a bachelor’s degree in Government and Spanish from Dartmouth College, a juris doctor from Columbia Law School and a master’s degree in International Affairs from Columbia School of International and Public Affairs.
Steven J. Strobel
Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer
Steven J. Strobel joined Hill-Rom as senior vice president of Finance and chief financial officer in November 2014. Before joining Hill-Rom, Mr. Strobel was chief financial officer of BlueStar Energy, an independent retail energy services company. Prior to BlueStar, Mr. Strobel served as treasurer and corporate controller at Motorola, and in the same positions at Owens Corning. Earlier in his career, he worked at Kraft Foods and American Hospital Supply Corporation. Most recently, Mr. Strobel was president of McGough Road Advisors, a corporate finance consulting firm. Mr. Strobel serves on the board of directors of Newell Brands Inc., where he chairs the Audit Committee. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from the University of Illinois and an MBA in Finance from the University of Chicago.
